Thinks that a new government will be formed soon
Inga Sæland, chair of the People’s Party, said after a meeting with Halla Tómasdóttir in Bessastaðir that she had had informal discussions with Kristrún Frostadóttir, chair of the Social Democratic Alliance, and Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, chair of the Liberal Reform Party, where congratulations were exchanged. However, nothing was formal about a possible government formation.
“It is irresponsible to be talking about anything now,” Sæland says. She did say, however, that she thought it was likely that a new government would be formed soon. “I have met with the parliamentary party and they will be informed about everything that will take place regarding possible discussions.”
She does not rule out cooperation with the Independence Party but believes it is natural that Kristrún Frostadóttir will lead the possible formation of a government to begin with.
Sæland said in advance that she was sorry to hear talk that her party was not fit for government.
"I'm tired of this lame message that the People's Party is not fit for government. We are a beautiful and elegant 10-member political party."
