A new electricity mast will be erected

Work on preparations to erect a new electricity mast within the Svartsengi defense walls has begun. The aim is to bring the line into operation as soon as possible and conditions permit. The new electricity mast will raise the conductors by 12-14 meters.
"Some of the material has arrived on site and today we will begin building foundations for the mast, which will be assembled on-site and erected subsequently," says Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir, information officer at Landsnet, in an interview with mbl.is.

Þorsteinsdóttir says that it will take a few days to assemble the mast and when that work is complete, the line will begin to be connected. She says that around or after next weekend it will hopefully be possible to put the line into operation again.
The mast that will be erected is a steel frame mast and is different from the existing masts on the line, but it is taller and more lightweight. Þorsteinsdóttir says that Landsnet had a spare mast of this type that was suitable and shortened the operation time.
