Laufey rocked a Chanel jumpsuit
It is not considered bad to wear clothes from the French fashion house Chanel from head to toe, but that is what the musician Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir did at the premiere of Wicked recently. The evening was eventful and she spent part of the evening with one of the world's most famous singers, Ariana Grande.
Laufey wore a pale pink and embellished Chanel jumpsuit. The jumpsuit was embellished with stones, crystals, and a beaded fringe and she wore black shoes from the same label. She also had a big black bow in her hair. The suit is from the brand's haute couture line for the year 2024/2025.
What does "haute couture" mean?
The words come from French and mean high fashion and or special tailoring. Haute Couture dates back to the 16th century and originally referred to a special garment, often called a corset, that was specially sewn for the wearer. In the nineteenth century, Paris became the center of haute couture, and the clothes were made of high-quality materials and sewn by the most skilled.
Currently, haute couture is a protected profession and fashion houses have to meet strict criteria to become a "real haute couture house". This was done to be able to maintain this unique craftsmanship that is haute couture clothing. There is also a special committee in France that maintains a list of fashion houses that is updated every year. To be part of the list, the clothes had to be tailor-made for each customer individually, have a sewing studio in Paris and at least fifteen full-time employees, and introduce a line of at least fifty new garments, twice a year, in January and July.
Among the fashion houses that are currently on the list of valid haute couture houses are Chanel, Dior, Maison Margiela, Alexandre Vauthier, and Givenchy.
