Forecast for bad weather in many parts of the country tomorrow
The Icelandic Meteorological Office is warning of severe weather in many parts of the country tomorrow, and a yellow and orange weather warning has been issued due to strong winds and snowfall.
Orange warnings come into effect tomorrow at 15:00 in the North East, at 17:00 in the East to Glettingur, at 18:00 in the Southeast, and 20:00 in the Eastfjords. In these areas, there will be a northwesterly storm or wind with snowfall. Elsewhere in the country, there will be yellow warnings that will take effect early this morning.
Bad weather comes periodically throughout the day
Birgir Örn Höskuldsson, a meteorologist at the Icelandic Met Office, tells mbl.is that bad weather is expected to come in periodically throughout the day and into the evening. He says that the weather is warm today and the temperature has exceeded 20 degrees Celcius in East Iceland, but then it cools down quickly this evening and during the night.
"Before noon tomorrow, it will be windy and gusty in the southwestern part of the country, where it can be very blinding in storms, where wind gusts can reach 30 m/s. In the afternoon, the weather clears up in the southwestern part of the country, but then it starts to wind and snow in the North, and as the afternoon begins to wind down in the east, and in the evening it will be quite windy there and in the Southeast," Höskuldsson says.
He adds that in general the weather will be much better on Saturday and as the day goes on it will become fine all over the country. In the following days, cold weather is predicted in the north, which will not be sharp and will not bring much rain.
