Tourists in trouble: Didn't find their way back
Around 6 pm last night, the rescue teams Hérað and Jökull were called out because of tourists who were lost in the vicinity of Kirkjufoss waterfall in Fljótsdalur.
In addition, a drone team from the Ísólfur rescue team from Seyðisfjörður was called out for this search, according to an announcement from the Landsbjörg rescue team.
It is stated that the people contacted the Emergency line because they had become lost and were getting very cold.
According to information from the tourists, it was understood that they had walked from the farm Egilsstaðir in Fljótsdalur to Kirkjufoss waterfall and had been walking for several hours but did not find their way back.
Used drones in the search
Rescue teams used drones to quickly cross the search area, together with rescuers leaving Egilsstaðir and the cabin in Laugarfell, the rescue team Landsbjörg reports.
The people were soon found on the hiking trail, not far from the cabin in Laugarfell. It turned out that they had walked from the cabin and their car was there.
They were helped back into Laugarfell and rescue teams headed home.
Operations ended at ten o'clock last night.
