"In these small communities, if something happens, everyone just shows up and lends a hand," says Jónas Þór Viðarsson, a musician who, together with his colleague Arnþór Þórsteinsson, plans to hold a Christmas concert in support of Sigrún Björg Aðalgeirsdóttir, who had, along with her infant son, in a traffic accident in Kelduhverfi in Öxarfjörður last month.

Aðalgeirsdóttir and her husband, Egill Bjarnason, had just bought the Skúlagarður Hotel in Kelduhverfi and were settling in the countryside with their three children when the accident happened.

Viðarsson, who is from the village, says that the idea for a support concert came from one of their friends, Þórsteinsson, who plays with them, and as a result, they decided to go ahead and hold a Christmas concert.

"To strengthen them e.g. when it comes to rehabilitation and stuff like that. So maybe it will be a smaller slope and people may not have to think much about the financial side."

He says that musicians from the area have joined them and that everyone was willing to contribute to the cause, and the reception has been excellent since he advertised the concert on Facebook.

"I posted this three days ago and the phone has barely stopped."

The women's association supports the cause

The concert will be held in Skúlagarður. Viðarsson says that it would have been possible to hold the concert in Húsavík to fill more seats, but it would have been more homely to hold it in the countryside.

The Women’s Association of Kelduhverfi will also contribute to the cause and provide light refreshments for concertgoers.

When asked, Viðarsson says that he heard from Bjarnason before it was decided to play the support concert to see if it was okay.

"He was just touched and very grateful and sent a greeting from his wife," Viðarsson says, adding that he hopes that Aðalgeirsdóttir will make it to the concert in December.

"If not, we’ll just try to stream it so she can see it."

People rally behind this

He also says that many people have contacted him to offer their help.

"Everyone is willing to help. After I posted this, I've been getting all kinds of messages offering to help and stuff like that. People rally behind this."

Promises a great Christmas mood

Viðarsson and Þórsteinsson have been playing together for some time and Viðarsson says that they always held Christmas concerts in churches and have always supported certain causes.

They played over the summer for money to buy gadgets and then over Christmas to sponsor.

"We didn't do it last year so it was time to do something like this again."

The concert will be held on December 18, and Viðarsson says that they have to rely on the weather gods so it will be possible to drive to the concert from Húsavík, but he does promise a great Christmas atmosphere at the concert.

"Those who are not yet in the Christmas mood  will walk out in the Christmas mood."
