The man who fell into Tungufljót River near Geysir yesterday was Icelandic. He was traveling there with two other men.

They had previously been to Geysir, according to Sveinn Kristján Rúnarsson, senior police officer at the South police.

When asked, he says that it is yet to be properly revealed what the men were doing in the area. "It's all in the works and everything is at an early stage," Rúnarsson says, when asked about the investigation into the causes of the accident.
The man who died was in his thirties.

"River rescuers got the man out of the river and resuscitation attempts were immediately started on him, which were unsuccessful," said the police announcement yesterday.
