After the latest update, it is now possible to speak in Icelandic with ChatGPT and receive an answer in Icelandic.
The announcement by the Ministry of Culture and Trade says that the update marks a turning point, as the possibilities for utilization and progress in language technology are now significantly greater than before.
The speech synthesizer was updated to ChatGPT Plus and now has better voice functionality than ever before when interacting with speech models.
The free version of the program contains a speech synthesizer that is considerably more limited in terms of pronunciation, comprehension, and information acquisition.

Objective achieved
"It's a big turning point for us to get Icelandic into vocal form. The main goal of our language technology work has been to be able to communicate with technology in Icelandic. Here we achieve that goal because now it is possible to have casual conversations about everything in the world in Icelandic with ChatGPT," Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Trade, was quoted as saying in the ministry's announcement.
"This is a new and exciting technology, and the opportunities it contains for all kinds of exciting solutions that can be built on top of it are countless. These are exciting times for our language."
