Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urging the West to increase defense support for his country and to drop the condition that Western weapons systems may not be used against military forces on Russian territory.
Russia does not respect such "red lines", as the arrival of North Korean forces clearly shows. The war is not local in any sense anymore.
This was stated in an interview the president gave to six Nordic journalists at the Nordic Council meeting.
Zelensky makes it clear that Ukraine not only has its own hands to defend, but it is standing as the West's defense against the conquest policies of Russia and other dictatorial states that want to undermine Western cooperation.
"They started the war"
He thanks the Nordic countries for their strong support for Ukraine but believes that some Western countries have been too weak in their support. However, he is not too worried about it, no more than the upcoming presidential election in the United States. The public has turned out to be pro-Ukraine.
"They understand that we defend our shared values." Understand that Russia's war against Ukraine is an attack on the common Western values of freedom and democracy."
It is not the case that Ukraine escalates the war by fighting to defeat the invaders.
