Birgir Ármannsson, Speaker of Alþingi, met with parliamentary party leaders this morning and there was a "good" consensus on finalizing the budget for the Alþingi elections on November 30.
"There was a consensus about trying to finish processing the budget proposal and the issues that directly affect it," says Ármannsson in an interview with mbl.is.
He says that the parliamentary party leaders will of course discuss this issue with their parliamentary parties, and it is planned that he will meet again tomorrow with the parliamentary party leaders.
"We will continue to review how we practically spend our time in the parliament in the coming days and weeks," he says.
Aiming for a parliamentary session tomorrow
How will the work of the parliament be until the elections?
"As I see it now, there won't be many parliamentary meetings, but the strategy will be to have the meetings only when necessary due to the processing of the issues that really need to be completed. The committees that have a role to play in the budget work, of course they will continue to work."
He says that according to the nature of the matter, the election campaign has already started and therefore the focus of the members of parliament is to wage their election campaign in their constituencies.
A parliamentary session is planned at 10.30 tomorrow.
