Svavarsdóttir excludes the Left-Green Movement's participation in the acting government
Svandís Svavarsdóttir, chairman of the Left-Green Movement, says the party's MPs will not participate in the executive government under these circumstances.
This is what she said after President Halla Tómasdóttir announced that she wanted the government to remain in office until the elections on November 30.
"The Prime Minister, Bjarni Benediktsson, has asked for a solution for himself and his ministry. It is clear that the government has completed its mission. Conversations did not lead to another solution to the situation that has arisen, and it is the conclusion of the the Left-Green Movement not to participate in the acting government under these circumstances," she writes in a statement on Facebook.
Ministers of the Left-Green Movement will be ordinary members of parliament
"From tomorrow, the Left-Green Movement’s ministers will be ordinary members of parliament and will approach the urgent matters that need to be completed in Althingi with responsibility and duty. I have full faith in the parliament, it has dealt with complex situations in the past."
Svavarsdóttir says that the elections on November 30 are the next step, after a conversation with voters all over the country about the future and the vision for Iceland.
"The public's call for solutions, due to inflation and interest rates, in economic matters, housing matters, in public services and other important issues is clearly heard. We in the Left-Green Movement believe that there is no solution other than strong socialism, that there are no other ways to deal with the real challenges of our time," writes the chairman.
The mission is clear
"In the spirit of social justice, feminism, peace and green politics, we are holding a meeting of voters.
The Left-Green Movement's mission is clear, we will do our part to ensure that the left has a strong voice in the Icelandic Parliament, if we get a mandate for that. I'm looking forward to it! See you out there."
