Series of earthquakes on the Reykjanes Ridge last night
There was considerable seismic activity on the Reykjanes ridge last night, but a dozen earthquakes were measured near Eldey Island.
The largest earthquake measured 3 in the second hour of the night, but its source was at a depth of 9.4 km, about 2.2 km northwest of Eldey.
"There was a bit of an earthquake at Eldey last night, but it's over now." There were no earthquakes found in settlements," says Jóhanna Malen Skúladóttir, natural hazard expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, to mbl.is.
She says there are regular earthquakes on the tectonic plates on the Reykjanes ridge.

Yesterday morning dozens of earthquakes were recorded at Mt Herðubreið. The largest one was 2.2 in size according to the reviewed results of the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
"It was quite a lot of rain on the west side of Mt Herðubreið yesterday, but it has ended. We've had torrential rains in similar areas fairly regularly, and they were noticeable last summer," Skúladóttir says.
Quiet at the Sundhnúkagígar crater row
Asked about the situation at the Sundhnúkagígar crater row, she says that there is not much going on at the moment and that only two earthquakes have been recorded at the magma tunnel in the last 24 hours.
"There is still magma accumulation in Svartsengi and we just have to wait and see," says the natural hazard expert, adding that nothing is going to make news in this area soon.
