Yazan Tamimi, an eleven-year-old boy from Palestine, has been granted international protection in Iceland together with his parents based on subsidiary protection considerations.

Albert Björn Lúðvígsson, the family's lawyer, confirms this in an interview with mbl.is.

As a result, the family receives a two-year residence permit in Iceland, which they have the option of renewing.

"Safe for now"

"They are safe for now. They are both grateful and very happy about it, of course," says Lúðvígsson, who himself is very happy with the result.

"This is a big change since I was informed that they had been arrested and sent to the airport. This is very satisfying and what they wanted the most."
