The man of God who will lead Herjólfur Ferry

"I am from the Westman Islands, so I know Herjólfur's staff well and know that the company is well run. I decided at the time to give it a go and apply for the job, but I have to admit that when I got the call that I got it, it was a big surprise."
This is what Ólafur Jóhann Borgþórsson, parish priest in Seljakirkja Church, says in an interview with Morgunblaðið, but the 43 year old priest was recently appointed as Herjólfur's managing director. It is stated in the announcement of the board of Herjólfur ohf. that it was a unanimous decision to hire Borgþórsson as the company's managing director. He will take up the job on January 1, 2025.
"The job is an exciting opportunity for me, as well as moving home to the Westman Islands and facing new challenges."

Nice to get an extra line
He accepts that it is not every day that a priest takes on this kind of work.
"All my working life I have worked as a priest in Seljakirkja Church in Breiðholt. Sometimes when I write obituaries about people, I have thought about what would be written about me. It would be that I was born in Vestmannaeyjar, died in Reykjavík and worked in Seljakirkja Church in between! It would be nice to have an extra line in the memorial words," he says with jokingly.
He says that he has received very positive feedback from various sources, even though it was a surprise to many that a priest was taking over Herjólfur's reins.
"Hopefully, it will be beneficial to get a manager who is used to saying his prayers, so that Landeyjahöfn Harbor will be more open during the year."
