Serious traffic accident in the North

The police in the North West a say that a notification was received at 2 pm today about a serious traffic accident at Fossá River on Skagi.

The police also say that emergency responders are working on the scene and it is noted that the road is closed.

Two people were in a car that overturned and crashed on the side of the road.

Birgir Jónasson, police chief in the North West, reports on this in an interview with mbl.is.

"There is an on-site investigation and representatives from the Transport Accident Investigation Board are coming. I don't know if they have arrived. I don't have information about that," he says.

"This is a serious traffic accident," he adds.

According to umferdin.is, the road is still closed where the accident happened.

The police chief notes that there were two people in the car.

"I can't confirm it, but it's a serious traffic accident."

Jónasson does not confirm the gender or nationality of those who were in the car.

He says that the police in the North West will send out an announcement later where more information will be provided.
