The police are reviewing the footage
Grímur Grímsson, senior police officer of the central investigation department, says that the police received a lot of footage from passers-by who drove along Krýsuvíkurvegur Road on September 15 between 1pm and 6pm, the same day a ten-year-old girl was found dead there.
The girl's father is suspected of having killed her, and the man's detention order expires tomorrow. Before that time, the police must decide whether to request continued detention. According to Grímsson, he is the only one who has the status of a defendant, but he says that no interrogations have been conducted on the man since Wednesday.
"We've had quite a bit of footage that we've been going through. We have yet to see whether or not there will be any direct benefit from this material."
He says that the police received most of the footage after they advertised for it, and that is often the case in such cases.
Grímsson says that a preliminary psychiatric evaluation was carried out on the girl's father, but that it is standard practice in such cases. He says he has not reviewed what the result was. RÚV reported last weekend that the man had been found competent to stand trial.
Competency assessed by a judge
Grímsson says that a judge assesses culpability and it is more of a legal issue than a medical one, although it is based on a medical opinion to some extent.
According to Grímsson, the investigative work is in full swing and one part of it is to confirm whether the man was under the influence or not. There is no conclusion in that regard.
"The research has reached such a level that there are no daily changes to it."
