A man suspected of killing his daughter has been remanded in custody until September 24. This is stated in an announcement from the police in the Metropolitan area.

"An Icelandic man in his fourties was ordered today in the Reykjaness District Court to be held in custody until Tuesday, September 24 at the request of the Metropolitan Police for the sake of their investigation into the death of a young girl last night. The man is the father of the aforementioned girl, who was 10 years old, and he is suspected of having killed her," says the announcement.

Was initially unclear about the incident and location

It appears that the man himself called the emergency line to get in touch with the police.

"In the beginning, he was vague about both the incident and the location. After a few moments, a clearer picture of the situation was obtained, and at the same time, emergency personnel were sent to the site, which turned out to be in the lava opposite Vatnsskarðsnáma on Krýsuvíkurvegur Road.

The man was arrested there at the same time as the girl was searched for, but she was found not far away. Resuscitation attempts were immediately started, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful and the girl was pronounced dead at the scene."

Finally, it is said that the police in the capital area have benefited from the special unit of the National Police Commissioner during the operation.

Has been in trouble with the law

The man in question is 45 years old, but he has had run-ins with the law before.

Almost two decades ago, he was sentenced to almost four years in prison for importing a significant amount of hard drugs.

More than a decade later, the man was again convicted of a drug offence, then for having in his possession a considerable amount of cannabis plants and marijuana.
