A brighter Column of Peace shines in Viðey
Construction work on the renovation of the Peace Column in Viðey has been ongoing this summer. They have to finish before the column is lit, next October 9, on the birthday of the musician John Lennon.
In a memorandum about the project, which was presented at the Culture, Sports and Leisure Council of Reykjavík, it is stated that for a long time it has been known that the Yoko Ono Peace Column in Viðey needs to be renovated.
The project is essentially two-fold, on the one hand improvements and upgrades of technical equipment and on the other hand repairs to the "wishing fountain" from which the light column rises. Then a platform needs to be fixed around the well, which is covered with three types of Icelandic rock.
