"It's very windy here"

The coast guard ship Þór is now on its way west to Hornstrandir due to an emergency call that came from there. Helgi Jensson, police chief in the Westfjords, says that there are a lot of strong winds in the Westfjords and that the civil defense command has been activated.

"It's very windy here and in the fjord," says the police chief.

"One schooner went up this morning and it was caught in the wind. There is another barge free and up in the tide now and we are worried about the third one."

He mentions that it is too windy to save the schooner at the moment.

Emergency call from Hornstrandir

According to him, operational control has been activated and the patrol ship Þór is on its way west due to an emergency call received from Hornstrandir.

"There was an emergency call, but we don't know what the emergency is. We haven't really contacted them so we can't say much about it."

He says the police are monitoring developments. It is hoped that the people in Hornstrandir are sheltered  and everything is fine, but he notes that it is not easy to get there due to the weather.
