A foreign man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for importing almost 900 grams of cocaine, which he brought with him on a flight from Zurich, Switzerland in June this year.
The judgment of the Reykjaness District Court states that it was 874.49 grams of cocaine with a strength of 53-88%, but that he had hidden the substances internally. He was charged with a large-scale drug offense because of that, but the substances were intended for distribution in this country.
The man, Kennedy Aparecido Silva De Almeida, clearly confessed his crime during the hearing of the case, and it was therefore judged as a confession case.
It is stated in the judgment that it will not be seen that Almeida was the owner of the materials, but that he agreed to transport them to the country.
In addition to receiving a 14-month sentence, Almeida was ordered to pay 2.2 million in court costs, which include, among other things, an X-ray examination of the substances that were inside, an evaluation of the substances and his lawyer's fees.
