Rescue operations at Breiðamerkurjökull glacier have been completed. Search has been cancelled.

This was done a moment ago after it became clear that no one was under the ice that was believed to have fallen on two tourists and hidden them at the same time.

It is stated that this morning the fate of 23 people was known. Of those, 21 were unharmed and moved to settlements, but the search continued for the two who were believed to have been buried under ice.

The investigative team of the police in the south worked together with the company that sold the trip to clarify the list of those who went on the trip.

It was impossible to find information about the two people missing in the company's books.

Registration not accurate

"Just a moment ago, the police station commander at the scene announced that all the ice that was believed to have fallen on the people has been moved and hidden," says the police.

It turned out that no one was hiding under the ice. At the same time, it has been ruled out that the people who have been searched for are hidden under ice.

"As a result, it is clear that only 23 people were on this tour yesterday, and the two who were found injured and dead, are the only ones who suffered damage," says a police announcement.

"It seems clear that registration for the trip and maintenance was not accurate, as well as conflicting information about the number of people on the trip. Based on the available information, it was not considered defensible other than to continue the search until we had received assurance that no one was under the ice."
