The condition of the girl who suffered life-threatening injuries in a stabbing attack in the city center on Culture Night is unchanged, according to Grímur Grímsson, senior police officer of the central investigation department.
Grímsson says that there has been little progress worth talking about in the case.
"They have been interrogated today and reports have been taken, so the data is just being collected as happens in this kind of investigation," he says.
Neither the stabbing man nor his victims have reached the age of 18, but in the lunch news of the National Radio yesterday, Grímsson stated that if persons under the age of 18 are ordered to be detained, it is done in "an appropriate facility and not a prison".
Asked about this, he says: "It's not entirely clear how things will turn out with detention. He [the stabber] has not been brought before a judge yet."
Sixteen-year-old boy in custody until August 30
A sixteen-year-old boy was this evening in Reykjavík District Court remanded in custody until August 30 based on investigative interests at the request of the police in the capital area.
The detention is said to be for the benefit of the investigation into a serious assault in the city center on Culture Night.
This is stated in an announcement from the police.
Suspect of stabbing three youths
"The boy is suspected of having stabbed three young people with a knife in the city " says the announcement.
"Due to his young age, the boy will be cared for appropriately while in custody. The young people who were attacked were all taken to the emergency department, but one of them was seriously injured and is in danger of dying."
