Decreased activity after 4 am

The activity of the eruption has decreased somewhat since it was at its peak last night and it is mostly confined to the northern end of the fissure that opened first and on the fissure that opened last night north of the original fissure.

This is stated in an announcement from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

The seismic activity decreased rapidly from 4 am this morning. However, fissures are still being measured north of Mt Stóra-Skógfell and this indicates that the eruption has not yet reached equilibrium.

Lava flow towards Grindavíkurvegur Road has mostly stopped. No infrastructure is at risk as of now. Nothing in the data indicates that the activity will move south towards the town of Grindavík.
