A volcanic eruption has broken out on the Reykjanes Peninsula again.

The eruption is east of Mt Sýlingarfell, in a very similar area to the last eruption at the end of May. Representatives from civil defense and the Norwegian Meteorological Agency are on their way to fly over the area.

Sigríður Kristjánsdóttir, a natural disaster expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, says that it can be assumed that the eruption is now growing.

The eruption is the ninth in just over three years and the sixth in about eight months, since the first eruption at the Sundhnúkagígar crater row in December last year.
