There will be no hot water for one and a half days in all of Hafnarfjörður, Kópavogur, Álftanes, Garðabær, Norðlingaholt, Breiðholt, Hólmsheiði, Almannadalur, and Norðlingaholt from 10 pm next Monday until noon on Wednesday, August 21.

The reason for the lack of hot water is that work is underway to double the southern vein, which is a transportation vein that transports water from Reynisvatn to a large part of the capital area. At the end of this month, part of it will be put into use.

On Monday evening, work will begin to drain the hot water from the south vein so that the new pipes can be connected. Draining takes a few hours, and then work begins at five different places in the system, but the most extensive work will be connecting the southern vein 2, after which the hot water will be let into the system again slowly and surely.

"As the situation is now, it seems that our plans are going to work," says Hrefna Hallgrímsdóttir, director of HS Veitur heating supply, in an interview with mbl.is.  The aim is to increase the capacity of the heat supply to provide all the inhabitants of the area with the necessary infrastructure and quality of life for the future.

Has a major impact on the quality of life of the public

"We realize that the lack of hot water has a very big impact on the quality of life of the public, and not least for vulnerable users, and that is why we have put a lot of effort into communicating promptly and trying to provide the best possible information." These are big and important actions that we are embarking on," Hallgrímsdóttir says.

She adds that they try to schedule the work at a time that minimizes the use of hot water and when the central heating is not at its peak.

Hallgrímsdóttir says it is important that residents have turned off the taps to prevent damage when the water comes back on and advises house owners to pay attention to their indoor systems.

The Association of Master Plumbers has compiled guidelines for homeowners, but it is a good idea to keep the windows closed at this time to keep the heat inside.
