The search has been postponed: Suspicion of a fake message
The police in Southern Iceland have postponed the search for tourists who have been searched for in Kerlingarfjöll since last night. Strong evidence has now emerged that suggests it was a fake message.
The police in Southland have today worked with the help of the Capital Police computer research department and other experts to identify the origin of the emergency request in question.
This is stated in an announcement from the police on Facebook.
An extensive search has been ongoing since late last night in the vicinity of Mt Kerlingarfjöll following an emergency request that was received by the emergency line at 22:18 to the effect that two people were trapped in a cave in the area.
