The arctic tern’s nesting (Sterna paradisaea) at Seltjarnanes has gone beyond expectations and no minks attacked the nests.

"Last year the breeding went well, but then a mink got into it and took a toll on the young, and now pest control and the environmental committee are keeping it under control. But the breeding is in a better state," says ornithologist Jóhann Óli Hilmarsson in an interview with Morgunblaðið.

Hilmarsson says that some minks showed up this spring and summer, but then pest control was used to destroy them. The exterminator is allowed to go through the area during the heron's nest with a gun and a dog if necessary.
