Lyfjaver Pharmacy is now importing Ozempic in response to a shortage that has occurred alongside a multiple use of the medicine within a short period.

This is stated in a notice from Lyfjaver Pharmacy, which also states that there has been a shortage of the drug for a long time and several examples of a pharmacy being forced to dispense the medication to customers for one month at a time.

“This has caused users of the medicine substantial problems and people call several pharmacies desperately in search of a dose of Ozempic,” the announcement quotes Hákon Steinsson, CEO of Lyfjaver Pharmacy, as saying.

“We hope to help”

The pharmaceutical company has been granted marketing authorization for Ozempic for over two years, but the announcement states that market conditions were not considered favorable for import. On the other hand, there was an opportunity with larger packages of the medicine that contained three pre-filled pens, which is a three-month dose of the medicine.

“We hope to help improve the access to the medicine, but these larger packs are now available in many pharmacies,” Steinsson commented.

Drug shortages are a significant problem

The announcement notes Steinsson that drug deficiency has been a significant problem in the past years and that it is a challenge to ensure an adequate supply of drugs so that patients will not be in the situation of not being able to get their medication.

“We work extremely hard to ensure that people who are getting medication at our pharmacy receive the medication they need. We have been successful and can say that people taking medication are under certain protection, but we need to constantly monitor the waiting lists of pharmaceutical wholesalers, increase the supply of medicines that regularly are in danger of being in shortage, supply us with other generic medicines or import the medicines ourselves,” he stated in the announcement.
