The Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter was called out to South Iceland after a car overturned near Kirkjubæjarklaustur around 8 pm yesterday.

Five people were in the car but two women were taken by helicopter to Landspítali Hospital in Reykjavík, the other passengers could exit the car after it rolled over.

The car is a passenger vehicle and it rolled over on Suðurlandsvegur Road between Skaftártunga Road and Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

The helicopter was operated as a safety measure, one woman had injuries to her head but the other woman's injuries are unknown. The car is totaled after the accident, according to police.

Those passengers who were not taken to Reykjavík to Landspítali Hospital were taken to the health care center at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, and their condition was said to be stable.
