Pictures: Celebrating Sailor's Day
Sailor’s Day was celebrated around the country today. A large-scale celebration was held at the Reykjavík harbor, which drew a great deal of cheers from young and and old alike.
The festival guests were shown a variety of fish from Icelandic the fishing ground of Iceland, there was entertainment, ships, and much more.
Small-boat owners gathered in the north for the day, and a flower bouquet was placed at a memorial to the missing and drowning fishermen in Naustahöfði cemetery. Trausti Jörundsson, chairman of the Eyjafjordur Seamen’s Association, placed the bouquet at the memorial, and Eyjafjordur priest Aðalsteinn Þorvaldsson conducted a praying moment.
