Security issues have been reviewed and it is assessed that operations of the Blue Lagoon can be reopened after evacuation took place on  May 29 due to the last eruption. Operations will open tomorrow.

This is stated in a notice from the Chief of Police in Suðurnes.

To secure escape routes from the Blue Lagoon, the police, HS Orka, and the Blue Lagoon have placed a single-lane dirt road from Svartsengi, which connects to Nesvegur Road west of Grindavík. As many people know, lava flowed across the Blue Lagoon Road and Nesvegur Road. The dirt road is not intended for public transit.

It is reiterated that no one is allowed to enter the eruption area from the parking lot of the Blue Lagoon. Those who have permission to enter the area are first responders, groups of scientists, and individuals on behalf of the Icelandic Journalists’ Union.
