The eruption has no impact on air traffic

This latest eruption, and the 8th that has occurred on the Reykjanes peninsula, does not affect air traffic, even though the international airport is relatively close by.

When the eruption started the flycode was put to red for a few minutes as a standard procedure to see if there is any ash coming from the eruption that might affect air travel. However, as has been the case with all of the eruptions in this area, the ash is not an issue.

Birgir Olgeirsson, a specialist in the Communication Department of the Icelandic airline Play, says that none of the eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula have had an impact on air travel, and the same goes for the one that started today.
