Investigating the death of two people in the Westfjords

The police in the Westfjords are investigating the death of two people in a home in Bolungarvík. The West Fjords Police announced on Facebook that they are a couple in their sixties.

The Westfjords Police requested yesterday the assistance of the technical department of the police in the capital area and a forensic pathologist to participate in a field investigation.

The field study was completed last night. A forensic examination of the bodies will be carried out afterward.

No evidence of foul play

There is no evidence that a criminal incident has occurred, as stated in the announcement from the Police.

“The investigation continues, but no further information can be provided for the time being,” it adds.

A personal tragedy

The mayor of Bolungarvík, Jón Páll Hreinsson, says the community is shocked by the news of the deaths in the local community. He says there is no danger.

The case is first and foremost a personal tragedy.

“We cannot imagine what really happened,” the mayor told mbl.is.

“Bolungarvík is a peaceful community. This is a terrible event,” he says.

“It is our job to take care of each other and support those who are unwell. Of course, people may experience all kinds of emotions when they hear about events like this. We will support each other in our peaceful community.”
