The seismic activity in the magma channel under Svartsengi has decreased slightly in the last day. The situation is still similar and inflation is continuing.

“This has been very similar, but there is slightly reduced seismic activity,” says Sigríður Magnea Óskarsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Met Office.

She says that earthquakes from eight o’clock yesterday morning to eight o’clock today have been about forty, while the same period a day before was about ninety.

She points out that the situation is still uncertain, seismic activity may pick up again later this afternoon, and inflation will continue.

“We are keeping our eyes on the ball, of course.”
