"Just waiting for it to start erupting again"
The employees of the Húsatóftir golf course in Grindavík were fully preparing for the opening of the golf course, which will take place on Saturday when a photographer and a journalist from mbl.is took a look at the course yesterday.
“We’re just in the doing our annual spring work and we’re getting everything ready for the opening of the field,” says Hafþór Skúlason, a member of the Grindavík Golf Club, who took a break from cutting the green grass on the field to talk to a reporter.
Never seen the field so good at this time of year
The golf course will open for club members at the Golf Club Grindavík on Saturday but later for the general public. It can only be said that the golf course looks quite good.
“The field looks extremely good and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one this good at this time of year,” Skúlason says.
Players will not be allowed into tracks 13-18 on the banks below the road in the first place, as repairs have to be made after the November earthquakes, but the field is in good condition on the other tracks.

“There was a small crack on the 10th course that doesn’t in itself change much, but other cracks on the course are not new. It’s just an extension of older cracks that have become more visible,” he says. Skúlason reckons that many golfers from the club will attend on Saturday to play a game, but the golf club now has about 350 members.
Tired of endless evacuations
When asked if he finds it uncomfortable to work on the field in the circumstances that exist in and around Grindavík, Hafþór says:
“No, no way. I feel that this situation has been exaggerated. I am just waiting for it to start erupting again so that I can start staying in the town again. I’m tired of these endless evacuations.”
Skúlason is a Grindavík resident but lives in Selfoss. He says he still envisions the future in Grindavík.
“Certainly, this is an awful situation. I have a rental apartment in Selfoss, which I use between eruptions, but I’m back in Grindavík as soon as possible.”
