An abandoned Dacia Duster car appeared to be stuck in the lava field at the beginning of the route that goes west of the Blue Lagoon yesterday.
Hafþór Skúlason took this picture of the car at 17.25. At about 19 the car was still stationary in the same location, Skúlason tells us.
Rescue workers rescued three exhausted foreign hikers on the hiking trail to Litli Hrútur just west of Kistufell last night.
Not requested for assistance by rescue teams
Jón Þór Víglundsson, the information officer for Landsbjörg, says that nothing has been reported about tourists or others who might have parked their car in this area at such an unfortunate location, but off road driving is banned in Iceland.
