Suspicious men in yellow vests peeking through windows
A resident in the area tried to talk to two men wearing yellow vests marked with ÍAV when he saw them peeking through a window, but they did not answered and hurried away. Composite image
There have been suggestions on the Facebook neighborhood page “Betra Breiðholt” about suspicious travels of men wearing yellow vests in Selja- and Hólahverfi neighborhoods in Breiðholt. A resident in the area says that two men rushed away when he interfered.
The men are said to be wearing yellow vests marked with Icelandic main contractors ( ÍAV ) and have made their way into people’s gardens and peek through windows, as well as trying to enter buildings by pressing the doorbells.
Did not respond when asked about their business
A resident of a multi-story house near Strandasel who does not wish to be named says he tried to chat with the men who responded by speeding to escape.
“I approached them calmly, as they seemed to be looking through a floor-level window and asking what they were doing. Their response was walking away quickly without answering,” the resident says.
He says he did not do anything else and he did not call the police, but regretted not doing so after he saw discussions about the matter on the website.
Gunnar Hilmarsson, the chief police officer at the police in the capital area says that they have not been contacted about this suspicious behavior.

ÍAV have no projects in the area
Þóroddur Ottesen, CEO of ÍAV, doesn’t know that employees on his behalf have been doing business in Selja- or Hólahverfi areas in the recent past. There are no projects on behalf of the company that are ongoing. He knows the case, however, and that there have been complaints about people wearing vests marked with the company’s logo.
“We’ve been trying to figure this out ourselves but without success,” he says.
He says that all employees at the company receive vests like this, as well as guests at work areas. It is impossible that some vests have gone missing.
