Lava is still moving very slowly
The Icelandic Met Office has updated the hazard assessment on the Reykjanes peninsula. It is valid until March 20, given that nothing changes.
Stable and constant activity
The Icelandic Met Office reports that the volcanic activity has been relatively stable since late yesterday. The lava tongue is moving slowly towards the Suðurstrandarvegur road.
Area 3 covering the Sundhnúkagígar crater row, where the eruption is still ongoing, is unchanged and the risk is considered very high.
The risk is still estimated to be high in Zone 1, near Svartsengi, due to gas pollution and lava flow.
The same applies to area 4, Grindavík, where the risk of a landslide into fissures, as well as fissure movements, lava flow, and gas pollution is considered to be high.
Area 5 has been reduced to a considerable risk and area 7 to a small risk.
