Water flooding due to a broken water pipe
The Fire Department in the capital area is currently fighting cold water that is flooding through the Hlíðar area of Reykjavík due to a broken cold water pipe at the large roundabout in Lönguhlíð.
This is confirmed by Bjarni Ingimarsson, warden at the fire brigade in the capital area, in an interview with mbl.is. He says that the call came in from nine o'clock and that one pump truck was sent to the scene as well as a representative from Reykjavík Energy (Orkuveitan).
"Water is leaking around the neighborhood and it is getting too close to the houses," Ingimarsson says and explains that the fire department is now working to divert the water away from the houses.
Asked how it is done, Bjarni says that they believe that water will be pumped into large tubes that will be used to form a wall and thus lead the water away from the houses.
