Pétur Jökull Jónasson is wanted by Interpol and the Icelandic police.

Police have received tips from citizens about the whereabouts of Pétur Jökull Jónasson, who is wanted in the big cocaine case.

Grímur Grímsson, the head of the Central Division of the Icelandic Police, says that the police have an idea where he is.

“We have received various information about where he can be found.”

Jónasson is wanted by Interpol, but Grímsson says he has not received any tips from police officers.

“The most tips have been from citizens,” says Grímsson.

The substances hidden in tree-drums

Jónasson is wanted for having participated in the import of nearly 100 kilos of cocaine.

The case is the largest cocaine case ever in Iceland, in which four men were convicted of having, together with an unknown party, intended to import 99,25 kilograms of cocaine from Brazil to Iceland by way of a stop in Holland, where the drugs were seized by authorities. The drugs were hidden in seven tree trunks.
