The magma levels appear to be lower than in the volcanic eruption of December 18, however the magma flow has not been determined at this time.

Sigríður Kristjánsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Met Office informs mbl .is that the lava fountains are around 50-80 m high, according to a specialist that flew over the eruption site this morning.

Short notice

The notice for the eruption was only about 30 minutes and this is the shortest notice the Icelandic Met Office has seen from the Reykjanes peninsula since the earthquake swarm started in October.

In comparison, the notice for the eruption on January 14 was five hours.
