"We have warnings for melting snow and subsequently increased water and possibly slippery  roads here in the south and west of the country and in the Southeast this evening."

This is what a meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office says, but tonight a temperature change will come to the country with warm air and rain.

Clean out the drains

Considerable or heavy rain and rapidly rising temperatures are expected. Then you can expect a lot of melting, increased runoff and water growth in rivers and streams. It is important to clean drains to avoid water damage due to rain and runoff.

In addition to this, heavy ice can form where it rains on piles of ice or compacted snow.

"Clean out drains and protect yourself in the icy conditions," is the message from the Met Office.

People are encouraged to be careful and pay close attention to weather forecasts.
