Low visibility and bad driving conditions
Winter driving conditions are widespread across the country and visibility is severely impaired, especially on mountain roads.
Southwest
In the capital area there are slippery spots on the roads and snowfall on all routes.
There are slippery patches and snow covered paths on Reykjanesbraut, but snow cover is fairly wide in the Reykjanes peninsula. Snow covered roads and drifting snow and hail on Hellisheiði and in Þrengsli. There are slippery roads, covered with snow or sleet on most other routes. The driving conditions are bad on Mosfellsheiði with snow covered roads as well as on Bláfjallavegur.
South
Route 1, or the Ring road, has been reopened after closing west of Péturseyri last night. Snow covered roads and difficult driving conditions are most of the way from Selfoss to Vík. Snow covered roads and snowfall are on most other routes and possibly tricky driving conditions in places.
West and Westfjords
Seriously slippery roads and hail is on Snæfellsnesvegur in Staðarsveit county. Slippery roads and flurry snow is on Holtavörðuheiði. Snow covered roads or slippery roads and hail and in some areas drifting snow is on most routes in the Western part of Iceland. The road over Fróðárheiði is closed.
Heavy snowfall and tricky driving conditions are in Miklidalur, as well as in Hálfdán and Ennisháls. Glassy roads or snow cover is on most other routes in the Westfjords and there is a widespread snowfall. Dynjandisheiði is closed and it is not possible to drive north to Árneshreppur county.
An avalanche fell from Súðavík mountain last night and the road is closed. The circumstances will be examined when more information is published. This is stated on the website of the Road and Coastal Administration, umferdin.is .
North Iceland
Very slippery conditions on Siglufjarðarvegur and in the innermost area of Langidalur valley. Slippery roads or snow covered roads are on most routes in north Iceland.
The roads are either glassy and very slippery or with slippery patches on most routes in northeast Iceland and in some places there is drifting snow.
Snow covered roads and drifting snow is on Háreksstaðaleið route.
Weight limits are on the bridge over the Skjálfandafljót river on the northeast road (85) for trucks over 3,500 kg in total weight and passenger cars/group cars intended to carry more than eight passengers.
East and Southeast
Slippery roads,, snow covered and sleet are on Fjarðarheiði. Öxi route is impassable and the same goes for Breiðdalsheiði.
The presence of reindeer has been observed on roads in Álftafjörður, Hamarsförður and Berufjörður and drivers are asked to drive carefully and be mindful of animals possibly crossing
