Volcanic eruption started on the Reykjanes peninsula
A volcanic eruption has resumed on the Reykjanes peninsula.
It appears that a fissure has opened up at Sundhnúkagígar crater row north of Grindavík, at about 7.57 this morning and that it has already started to extend.
It is still unclear where the lava might flow.
The Department of Civil Protection has declared an emergency level alert due to the eruption.
Here is the eruption starting as was seen on RUV's webcam on Húsafell.
