Nettó delivering to Grindavík again
Grindavík residents can now receive shipments from the online store Nettó to Grindavík. The shipments will be made once a day in the first place, but the shipment volume will be revised according to demand.
At the same time the building of Nettó in Grindavík is being evaluated and renovations are underway to repair the damage that has occurred in the past months, so that the store can reopen.
Heiðar Róbert Birnuson, operations manager of Nettó says it is important to cater to the residents of Grindavík again.
The grocery store is a key factor in the town
“We find that Grindavík residents are increasingly interested in moving back home and resuming their life and work in Grindavík and we know that access to grocery stores is a key factor in the town. We find it extremely important to play our part in the development that is underway and the first step is to offer to deliver groceries to Grindavík,” Heiðar Róbert Birnusson, operations manager of Nettó, commented in the announcement.
It starts with the online store of Nettó
“All our employees from Grindavík have worked in other stores of Nettó in the last few months, but we are hopeful that uncertainty will decrease and that it will be possible to return to normal operations. Although we naturally know nothing what will happen, with the online store we can at least begin that journey.”
The store in Grindavík has been empty since mid-November, but a decision was made to close the store a day before last year’s evacuation.
The store had suffered extensive damage when the largest earthquakes hit, and it was not possible to remove a large part of the warehouse with corresponding stockpile damage.
