Man is believed to have fallen into a fissure in Grindavík

A search is underway for a man in Grindavík and there is a great deal of preparedness. This is confirmed by Jón Þór Víglundsson, information officer of Landsbjörg rescue team.

It is believed that the man fell into a fissure in Grindavík. Víglundsson states that it is not known for certain.

The announcement was made at 10.40 am this morning.

In a conversation with Vísir, police chief Úlfar Lúðvíksson said he doesn’t know that anyone saw the man fall into the fissure. Suspicion has arisen about the accident.

Contractor engaged in operations

Police, the fire department in Grindavík and rescue teams come to the search.

Úlfar Lúðvíksson, the police chief of Suðurnes, says that the missing man is a contractor who was working to fill the fissure.

The search still ongoing.
