Good fishing in the first days of the year

Life has returned to normal after a few days off that most people had on Christmas and New Year’s. The fisheries are again brimming with life and ships are on the horizon on their way to the fishing grounds.

Helga María RE 1, the trawler of Brim, left the previous night and the skip’s moorings were loosened fast without delay. The course was taken to Látragrunnur fishing ground, where captain Heimur Guðbjörnsson and his men were yesterday, and they got a little bit of a mix in a bag, as they described their catch.

Smaller boats have also gone to sea, such as in the fishing stations on the outside of Snæfellsnes. There they say that Breiðafjörður is literally full of fish, as the men on the boat are cheered when they arrive back to land with a fully loaded boat after the day. It can be said that the foreign currency is literally streaming in on such days, and it should be noted that the actual winter fishing season has not yet started.
