Closure extended until January 5
The temporary closure of the Blue Lagoon has been extended to January 5. This is stated on the website of the company, but all of its operations in Svartsengi were closed in November due to the earthquake on the Reykjanes peninsula.
Part of the operation was opened on Sunday, December 17, but the following day a volcanic eruption began at the Sundhnúkagigar crater row and the lagoon was closed again on December 19.
The estimated loss of revenues due to the closing of the Blue Lagoon in recent weeks is between ISK 4 and 4.5 billion, according to Morgunblaðið.
