Ari Guðmundsson, engineer at Verkís, says that the work on constructing a defensive wall around Svartsengi is going well, and the work began in mid-November.

“The project is just going very well and is on schedule. We are starting to move closer to the Blue Lagoon, but that’s the only place that’s still left to do. On the Sundhnúkar crater row up on the hill, for example, the defence wall is almost done,” Guðmundsson tells us.

He says that the construction of the defense walls is being worked on 24/7, but last weekend, people were given a little time off. He says that no fixed date has been set for the completion of the project.

“By mid-month, we should have a good picture, but we’ve already got more than half of all the material into the walls,” Guðmundsson says.

He says that on average 60-70 people have been working on the project.
