The temporary closure of the Blue Lagoon has been extended to December 7. This is what the Blue Lagoon has just announced.

Authorities and local authorities are well-prepared

“On  November 9, Blue Lagoon decided to close its operations in Svartsengi, i.e. Blue Lagoon, Hotel Silica, Hotel Retreat, Retreat Spa and restaurant Moss. In view of the disruption to the guests experience and the long-term strain on staff, we took these precautionary measures to ensure safety and welfare, which is our main priority for the time being,” the announcement states.

It is also difficult to determine exactly if, when or where a volcanic eruption could break out. Experts from the Met Office, Civil Protection and the University of Iceland are closely monitoring the situation and progress.

There have been a number of eruptions in the Reykjanes peninsula in the last two years. Emergency responders, authorities and municipalities are well-prepared for such events and are working in strategic partnerships and consultations with the country's leading experts in this field.

The closing date will be until 7 am on December 7 and the situation be re-evaluated.
